The Challenge
In the process of learning front-end development and some back-end development I worked on a website centered around genetics. Through competition analysis and needs assessment, it was determined that there was a lack of websites that communicated topics within genetics in lay terms, rather many went straight into the complex, scientific explanations of the topic.
Project Overview
This genetic website was coded as a starting point allowing individuals to get a general idea of what they were learning before diving into the specifics. The website breaks down genetics into three main categories, genetic mutation, genetic engineering, and genetic research. It also consists of a glossary page as well as a small quiz for genetic misconceptions.

Result
The website designed and coded gives students a general concept and explanation of the different sections while also linking them to reliable studies and sources that go into greater depth of the specific topic. This allows them to grasp the concepts faster, as well as find reliable sources to further build their knowledge.
Through this project I was able to work within user experience design and create a website that catered to the target audiences needs. I had the opportunity to create and conduct structured interviews with members of the needs audience and understand misconception within the topic which I brought back into the design of the website. As this was my first to really dive into front-end development and user experience research the end product came out better then I was expecting it to. Conducting initial market testing to creating meaningful interview questions was a lot of work but worth it as I received valuable feedback that was incorporated within my website. Not only did I built technical skills I was able to build my research skills which will be carried on to my future projects.
